Fabric Printing

Last week I "marked" some of the printing unit folders so I thought I would share with you some of the students work in the next few posts.
In the printing unit we cover a variety of printing techniques eg natural printing of leaves etc., mono- printing, roller, stencil, stamping and making stamps, riso sceens, unsing found objects, and many more. The students have to make their own stamps, stencils and riso screens but they use recycled objects as well exploring as many different techniques of printing they can to achieve variety. The students have be build up the printing processes - complex cloth.

The below photos are all a few of Gaynor Arblaster's examples.
In this unit she had two very full A4 folders full of examples, loads of research on each topic, a box of stamps that she made, a note book, a larger folder of stencils and riso screens and a research assignment on "The Story of Andinka Cloth". This unit of hers was a delight to "mark" and I totally enjoy the process of seeing my students succeed.

Well done Gaynor!!!

So you too enjoy the photos below

Port Pirie Museum

This was a great small National Trust Museum.
The building itself was the old railway station and behind it was the old police station which is part of the Museum.
We had driven through Port Pirie so many times to the mid north and further but never stayed there to look at the sites. It was an eyeopener - a large town and apart from the Smelters which is the main industry there was lots to see.
And we did day trips each day too.
As you can see with the last few posts we had a lovely time in our caravan - a good way to relax and dust off the cobwebs.

Today I have been doing some commissioned work - four silk quilts - will post a little later so keep watching. It is lovely to get back to piecing.

July School Holidays

A caravan trip to the mid north of South Australia this holidays was a delight - great weather and very relaxing
We journeyed to Port Pirie and the Southern Flinders Ranges
Staying at Port Pirie we ventured out and about every day
Reading and eating at night time

One of our day trips was to Port Germain which has the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere built in 1882 - 1.5 kilometres in length.  This was to reach water deep enough for boats to load their cargo. Today it is a shell of itself but still interesting for fishing, walking, art Galleries and an old junk shop with everything in it piled up to the ceiling. We had a great walk around the town.

Lovely old houses - many empty and falling down - another dying town - such a petty

The begininning of the jetty
Part of the jetty - a light beacon?

Flowers on the cactus - are they large enough?

Can you see the jetty? It is 1.5 kilometres long

What was left of the Garage - now a house
