Gazanias'

Gazanias' are a genus flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, native of South Africa and brought to Australia by immigrants on their journey to this land. They produce large daisy-like composite flowers in brilliant shades of yellow and orange, and sometimes pinks. I have these growing in my garden and when a challenge came up I decided to use these flowers in my composition. First of all I did loads of drawings. As the challenge has not been selected yet I will only show you some of the details. The technique I am using is Raw Edge Applique a class that I will be teaching in April at AQC - Australian Quilt Convention, Melbourne (aqc.com.au)

Creating New Fabric

In April I will be teaching the above class at AQC - Australian Quilt Convention, Melbourne so join me at this wonderful venue. aqc.com.au

Below is the descriptor of the class and some photos of my work. In the class on the first day you will create the background striped fabric and on the second day create the motifs - these are special unique techniques that I have developed for the class.

Creating New Fabric

Tutor: Suzanne Gummow

Have you ever wanted to create your very own original fabric? If so this workshop is for you! You will create new fabrics with fusing techniques to use for backgrounds and/or motifs. This is a creative approach that will enhance your art quilts.

Each person will end up with a small individual piece of work. Your work will be approximately A3 size. Stitching may happen (depending on time) and discussion will occur about how to add stitch and use your new fabrics in your works.
