“Dare to Differ – 2013”
An Exhibition of Art
Contemporary Quilts
This
is a National Exhibition of Contemporary Art Quilts, which happens every two
years. The exhibition promotes and displays contemporary quilting in Australia
to a wider audience here, in South Australia. Quilts have been selected from
five states of Australia. The exhibition is very diverse - in images, concepts,
innovation, techniques and sizes. This will be a stunning show of excellent
quality, which will attract large numbers as previous exhibitions have done in
the past.
The
exhibition is supported through the Quilters' Guild of South Australia and
Brother International Australia.
Join me on the opening night next Friday 27th September at 6.30pm.

Articles in Down Under Textiles
I am now writing for Down Under Quilts on a regular basis as their columnist - I am thrilled with the first issue which will be out in the newsagents on the 18th September. You can subscribe - well worth it as it would be good to support the Australian connection.
Not great photos so if you buy the magazine you will get not only a better"view" of my work but there is much more in it to enjoy!

Walking in the Cemetery
On Wednesday this week we had to wait for our car to be serviced so we walked in our local cemetery at Cheltenham, Adelaide.
I was looking for my Grandma's grave which we found. Our Gummow family plot is also there. It was interesting as many of the old graves are now being reclaimed and reused.
Of course I had taken my camera and below are a few shots from that walk.

Running Stitch - Kantha
My students have to explore running stitch for one of their assignments and create samplers in both traditional and contemporary methods of running stitch. They also have to do some research on types of running stitch in a cultural context e.g. Kantha which is from India and Bangladesh - and what other countries in the world use running stitch????

Embroidered Chicken
This chicken was given to me as a panel over 20 years ago - I then free machine embroidered the feathers, adding beads and couching to the eye area to add interest and couched the nest. Even though this is what I call an old piece I still love it. I took it into college to show my students when we were doing a section on hand and machine couching.
It was much admired so I thought I would share it with all of you.
Enjoy!!!
